Hydroplane, a sustainable aviation climate tech startup, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced electrical engineer to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge fuel cell sustainable aircraft electric propulsion, heavy duty transport systems, and power generation systems. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing electrical systems, focusing on power distribution and power systems. Key tasks include working on advanced high voltage electrical designs, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards, troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to optimize hydrogen fuel cell technologies for energy storage and propulsion systems. The candidate will also be actively involved in testing and certification. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee electrical system designs, part selection, bread boarding, cable harness, and integrated testing
  • Coordinate the integration of electrical components, ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards
  • Build/breadboard electrical system prototypes, conduct testing, and refine designs based on performance data
  • Participate actively in testing and certification processes to validate system functionality and safety
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement solutions proactively


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, with hands on experience with high power and high voltage electronics and electric motors (>300V, >50 kW)
  • Prior experience is testing high voltage systems with batteries, motors,
  • Proficiency in creating, reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability in the context of high voltage system design


Recommended Skills & Attributes

  • Deep knowledge and hands-on work with AC electric motors, three phase and single inverters , bidirectional DC/DC converters, and Li Ion batteries and battery management systems for systems above 100 kW
  • Experience with prototype development and testing of electric propulsion systems for automotive or aviation applications
  • Knowledge of electrical certification standards and regulatory requirements for power generation and transport systems
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Masters degree
